Apple ‘Ashmead’s Kernel’

Remaining popular for well over two centuries, ‘Ashmead’s Kernel’ has a distinctive ‘pear-drop’ flavour which is quite different from most other varieties. Flowering and cropping can be erratic, so not a variety for the cook requiring a regular supply for crumbles, tarts, or juice, it is nonetheless a versatile, late-season, green russeted apple that requires a pollination partner in group 4 such as ‘Golden Delicious’.
