Plant description
A compact, spiny evergreen shrub valued for its profusion of colourful orange-red berries in autumn. This upright, later spreading cultivar has dark green glossy foliage and thorns along its branches while clusters of small white flowers bloom in late spring, followed by abundant bright orange berries that persist into winter. Grown primarily for its showy fruit display that provides seasonal interest, ‘Saphyr Orange’ works well as a specimen shrub, espalier wall shrub, or informal hedge – its spiny nature also makes it an effective barrier plant against unwanted four-legged and two-legged visitors.
