Plant description
This small tree yields sublimely scented and flavourful fruit perfect for marmalade and jelly. The large, pear-shaped fruits ripen to a golden yellow with downy skin, and when cooked, the flesh turns a vivid crimson and develops its signature smooth, mild sweetness. Semi-vigorous among quince varieties, ‘Portugal’ requires some frost protection of its flowers in early spring. In spring, showy white and pink blossoms accent the emerging silver-grey foliage and furry young fruit.
